Payment Facilitators

What is the difference between a Payment Facilitator (PF) and a Payment Service Provider (PSP) in the first place? Of course, the scheme of mutual settlements with merchants and a significant difference in risks. PSP, as a rule, provides only technical execution of the transaction, that is, it is primarily a processing center that processes card payments. And the Payment Service Provider is not subject to the risks that apply to the Payment Facilitator. All responsibility for violation of the rules of card schemes on the part of the merchant is automatically transferred to PF, that is, the card schemes will not penalize the merchant directly, it does not have a direct contract with the merchant, but the acquirer and the Payment Facilitator will bear full responsibility.

So, what are the risks?

1

Fines from card schemes for illegal or prohibited activities (BRAM, GBPP).

2

Financial losses from chargebacks, mainly for non-fulfillment of agreements between the merchant and the cardholder.

3

Financial losses related to fraudulent transactions, including transactions that took place using the 3D-secure protocol.

4

Regulatory risks arising from card schemes (up to the prohibition of using bank cards) or the financial regulator of the country in which the legal entity is registered or the main activity is conducted.

These are just the main risks that can be applied to Payment Facilitator, in reality there are a much larger number of them.
